Rheem ductwork repair in Miami typically runs $175 – $765 installed, depending on how much duct has failed and whether we’re sealing, patching, or replacing a full section. In most cases we can have a technician out the same day you call, and every repair carries our written 365-Day Done Right Promise. The way Miami homeowners usually discover duct trouble: one room stays stubbornly hot, the AC runs longer than it used to, or the electric bill climbs without any obvious reason. Ductwork is the unseen half of your Rheem system, and when it leaks, your air conditioner works harder and your comfort still drops.

We’re Cold Harbour Heating and Air Miami, an independent service provider and part of the Kingswell network. We’re not affiliated with Rheem, but our technicians work on Rheem systems every week and stock the duct fittings, collars, mastic, and flex duct that Rheem-matched installations call for. Victor Mancini, our owner, logged close to two decades of hands-on HVAC work before bringing the crew to South Florida, and he still keeps a notebook of every unusual repair he’s run into. Some duct failures are so strange they earn a page in it.
Which Rheem Models This Applies To
Ductwork isn’t stamped with a Rheem model number the way a condenser or air handler is, but it is sized and matched to the system it serves. If your Rheem equipment is from the Classic, Prestige, or Endeavor lines, the duct dimensions were calculated to move a specific volume of air, measured in cubic feet per minute (CFM), at a static pressure the blower can handle. When we repair ductwork, we’re restoring that match. A Rheem system pushing against a crushed or leaky duct behaves like a runner breathing through a pinched straw.
The practical way to identify what you have: look at the supply plenum above your air handler. You’ll see round takeoffs, usually 6 to 14 inches across, sized per room load. Flex duct, the insulated silver tubing common in South Florida attics, carries an R-value printed on the jacket, normally R-6 or R-8. Rigid ducts show up in poured concrete and high-rise construction, where Brickell and Edgewater condos route chases through slab and firewall openings. For Rheem systems, we often carry OEM-spec duct fittings and collars, but we are honest with homeowners: aftermarket galvanized fittings from suppliers like S&M or builder’s grade flex from J&J are functionally identical to the Rheem-branded equivalent and keep your repair cost down. We’ll tell you which is which and why before a single tool comes out.

Signs Your Rheem Ductwork Repair Is Failing
- One room is always hotter or colder than the rest. A disconnected or crushed branch duct starves that room of airflow while the rest of the house still cools. If closing the door makes it worse, the return path is the likely culprit.
- Dust appears on surfaces within days of cleaning. A torn return duct pulls attic air, insulation fibers, and dust into the system. The AC recycles it through the supply ducts and it settles on your furniture and floors.
- The electric bill jumps without a hotter month. Leaky ducts can waste 20 to 30 percent of the conditioned air your Rheem system produces. Your AC runs longer to hit the thermostat set point, and you pay for every extra hour.
- Whistling or rumbling from the vents or attic. A disconnected collar or a kink in flex duct changes the air velocity. What you’re hearing is turbulence where there should be smooth, quiet flow.
- The room above the garage never cools down. In Miami’s heat and humidity, garage ceilings are notorious for poorly insulated, undersized duct runs. The attic cooks all day and the duct gives up its cooling before it reaches the room.
Most of these symptoms should be checked by a trained technician, because jumping into a hot Miami attic with a flashlight will only confirm it’s hot. The cause is what matters, and finding it takes a blower door test, a duct pressure test, or a thermal inspection, none of which are safe or practical for a homeowner to rig up.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
Ductwork repair in Miami falls into a few clear bands. Patching a small tear or resealing a leaking collar usually lands between $175 and $385. Replacing a short section of crushed or mold-damaged flex duct runs $300 to $565. A larger repair, where multiple branch ducts have failed or a plenum needs rebuilding, sits at $520 to $765. The exact figure depends on how much duct is involved, whether the attic is accessible or the duct runs through a finished ceiling, and whether we are matching an existing R-value or upgrading it to meet current Florida building code.
Every Rheem ductwork repair from us includes the same written price before any work begins. That price covers the parts, the labor, the cleanup, and our 365-Day Done Right Promise. If the repair fails within a full year, we come back and correct it at no charge, and that’s written down before the technician leaves. We don’t do verbal guarantees. We don’t do price changes at the door. It’s the Kingswell Way: say the price, show up in the window, leave the place cleaner than we found it, and put the guarantee on paper. DIY or Call Us?
Here is the honest split. You can safely look for obvious signs: a supply register that rattles, a visible tear in the flex duct jacket in your garage, a ceiling stain near a vent that suggests condensation. That information helps us work faster. What you should not do is climb into a hot Miami attic, cut into a pressurized duct with a utility knife, or try to reattach a fallen collar with duct tape. Attic temperatures in South Florida routinely exceed 130 degrees in summer, and a loose duct can pull insulation into your blower. Duct tape, despite the name, fails quickly in that environment; code requires mastic and mechanical fasteners for a reason.
There’s also the mold question. If a duct is wet, the source of the moisture needs to be found and fixed first, or you’ll be replacing the same section of duct again next year. That’s a diagnostic job, not a patch job. If any of this rings true, call (850) 810-1910 and we’ll send a background-checked, uniformed technician who works on Rheem systems daily. The visit is free, the price is on paper before we start, and the fix is covered for a year.
FAQs
Most flex duct in South Florida has a realistic service life of 15 to 20 years before the plastic jacket degrades and the insulation loses its R-value. Metal duct can last 30 years or more if the seams stay sealed and the exterior is insulated properly. Miami’s attic heat and humidity accelerate the breakdown of flex duct faster than in most of the country, which is why we inspect duct condition on every tune-up.
Isolated tears, separated collars, and small punctures can be repaired with mastic, mesh tape, and proper re-sealing, and that is what we do whenever the remaining duct is sound. If the duct is kinked, collapsed, full of mold, or the jacket has shredded across a long run, replacement is the honest call. We’ll show you the damage and give you the written price for either option before work begins. Call (850) 810-1910 for a free estimate.
Most repairs are done in two to four hours from the time the technician reaches the attic. A full branch duct replacement takes half a day. If the repair requires opening drywall or working in a high-rise chase, we schedule it in a firm window and we show up inside that window, every time.
We stock common duct collars, round takeoffs, flex duct sections in 6 to 14 inch diameters, mastic, and sealants on every truck, which covers the large majority of Miami repair calls. We also carry parts for Carrier, Trane, and Lennox systems, so if you have mixed equipment in the house, one visit covers all of it. If we need a specialty fitting, our supplier network gets it to us same day in most cases.
